Retail jobs grow in UK

The number of people in retail jobs in the UK, which may include sales recruitment positions, has increased, the latest figures suggest.

Data compiled by the British Retail Consortium (BRC) and Bond Pearce as part of the Retail Employment Monitor Q4 2010 shows that there were 3,900 more people in full-time retail jobs in the last year's final quarter than at the same stage a year earlier.

This marks an increase of 0.6 per cent and was described as a "modest" rise by Stephen Robertson, director general of the BRC.

He added: "Almost two-thirds of retailers say they will add to or maintain job numbers over the next three months and new stores are still being opened. With youth unemployment a major concern, retailers' largely positive outlook is good news for young jobseekers."
