Nearly 200 sales jobs to be created in Cornwall

A Cornwall supermarket will increase the number of sales jobs on offer with an extension to the store.

Tesco on Daniels Lane, St Austell, will create 180 sales jobs as the store looks to bring in a wider range of products and increase the amount of local produce it sells, which could boost other sales operations in the area.

They are also hoping to reduce the length of queues by bringing in more till assistants and increase the number of car parking spaces available while improving access to the store.

Plans to introduce a range of environmental features will also be included which will see Tesco reduce its carbon footprint by 40 per cent.

Juliette Bishop, Tesco corporate affairs manager, said that the proposals will make a major contribution to the service levels afforded to its customers.

She added: "We feel that our plans will deliver an improved store appropriate for St Austell which will support the existing town centre regeneration plans and making St Austell a key shopping destination."

The 180 new jobs will complement the 286 sales staff that currently work at the store.

Tesco has also recently announced the opening of its 2010/11 graduate sales scheme and is planning to take on 200 university leavers, after they have completed the graduate training initiative throughout 2010.
