New Sainsbury's sales jobs could be created

Up to 60 new positions, including sales jobs, could be created at a Scunthorpe supermarket if extension plans are given the green light.

The Sainsbury's store on Doncaster Road has put diagrams to the local community detailing the expansion, which would include creating a two-storey superstore complete with a restaurant.

Christian Wakelin, regional development surveyor at Sainsbury's, said that the new sales jobs would be a big boost to the local area in the current climate.

He added: "Our Scunthorpe store is performing really well at the moment, so we want to keep improving it and offer a wider range of choice to our customers. We want to give the local community the chance to give their opinion on the project before submitting a planning application."

Councillor Christine O'Sullivan said that any investment in the area which creates new sales jobs would be a much needed boost.

Rival supermarket Asda recently announced that it will create up to 10,000 sales jobs over the Christmas and New Year period, to help the supermarket cope with customer demand over the festive season.
